Brooke Jacobson, LMHC
New York, NY
Welcome!
My name is Brooke Jacobson, LMHC and I am a psychotherapist in NYC. I graduated with my M.A./EdM. in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, and have spent the last 5 years building a successful career using evidence-based practices to treat clients living with eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, and depression.
As a therapist, I am dedicated to providing my clients with high-quality, evidence-based treatment. I am highly trained in a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy called TEAM-CBT, and have also completed training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
I am especially passionate about helping my clients to get “unstuck” from unhelpful patterns that no longer serve them. I’ve spent years specializing in helping clients to recover from eating disorders. Through this work, I’ve found that each of us — whether we struggle with negative thoughts, trouble getting motivated, or difficulty in relationships — can stand to get out of old routines that are holding us back.
Beyond being a therapist, I’m a dog lover, a yoga enthusiast, and am always on the hunt for NYC’s greatest new restaurant. I look forward to learning more about you and walking with you on your therapy journey!
100% Virtual Therapy
Virtual therapy offers a convenient and flexible way to access mental health support from the comfort of your own space. Through a secure online platform, my clients can log on and receive care from the comfort of their own homes. This mode of therapy eliminates barriers such as transportation concerns and allows for sessions to fit seamlessly into busy schedules.
Research has shown that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many mental health conditions, making it a valuable option for those seeking support in today's fast-paced world.
A treatment plan just for you.
My thorough intake process is designed for me to get to know you, and for you to get to know me. My intakes typically take between 1-2 standard sessions. These sessions will help me to create a treatment plan that suits your exact needs.
You’re human, I’m human, and life changes constantly. Your treatment plan will grow and change with you as we get further into your therapy jounrey.

Being a human with a body is inherently difficult, and eating disorders can be a major roadblock to living a happy, fulfilled, and productive life.
All great eating disorder treatment begins with compassion, is fueled with great education and behavioral changes, and ends with lasting recovery. I will work with you to understand your specific challenges around food, eating, and your body, offer evidence-based resources to guide you through treatment, and be a supportive teammate through the ups and downs of recovery. I work best when a client is willing to form a team with myself, a dietician, and their medical doctor to pave a path towards holistic recovery.
Conditions treated: Anorexia, Bulimia, ARFID, Body Image Issues

Life can be overwhelming. Sometimes, when life gets too overwhelming, our bodies "down-regulate" into a state of depression to preserve energy. A person living with depression may stop wanting to do activities they once enjoyed or withdraw from others, among other symptoms.
Treatment for depression can involve examining your self-talk -- finding out the "bad story" you have running through your mind like a news ticker, and helping you to change the narrative. A lot of us need to be kinder to ourselves!
In addition, we'll work together to figure out how to bring more joy into your life. Whether this is doing the activities you've already love, discovering new possibilities, or reconnecting with your people, we will be dedicated togeteher to finding the way forward.

Despite the fact that it's been thousands of years since humans lived in caves, we unfortunately still have "cave man brains".
This means our brains are designed to pick up more on the negative or frightening as a protective mechanism.
Unfortunately, this process that was meant to protect us often backfires, leaving us feeling scared, alone, and confused.
Our goal for your anxiety treatment will be to understand and challenge the thoughts driving your fear, as well as help you to face your fears in a gradual, safe way so that you can enjoy lasting peace.

It's not always easy to "turn and face the change". Life throws us curveballs that are hard to handle on our own. Whether it be new job stress, adjusting to college life, or going through a breakup or divorce, therapy can help by providing a safe space to discuss your feelings about the adjustment you're going through.
We'll work together to understand the challenges you're having with your life change, and help you to show compassion towards yourself as you acknowledge what's often hard to: part of you may not feel ready to change just yet.
That's okay. We'll work together every step of the way!

Our friends, family, and partners can be huge parts of our lives. That means that issues in our relationships with them can feel huge, too.
In therapy, we'll work together to help you to develop new ways of thinking about your relationships, new ways of communicating with your loved ones, and new ways to accept the things that are out of our hands (easier said than done!)

My first sessions with clients tend to be more about getting to know someone and understanding their reasons for therapy than getting into actual therapeutic interventions.
There is nothing specific that you need to prepare, just come as you are!

Yes! I am currently accepting Cigna and Aetna insurance plans.
If you choose not to use insurance, my rate per session is $150.
I offer monthly superbills that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. As a client, you are responsible for calling your insurance company to make sure that you have Out-Of-Network benefits.

I see clients primarily on a weekly basis. In my experience, this cadence is helpful for building and maintaining the therapeutic relationship, while also giving clients time to practice skills outside of session. As we get deeper into therapy, we can discuss the potential for going biweekly.
I am open to seeing clients twice per week if their treatment needs necessitate this, and if their insurance company allows.

If you cancel a session outside of 24 hours, you will not be charged. If you cancel within the 24-hour period, I charge $90 to cover the cost of the session, as missed sessions can't be billed to insurance.
True emergencies (non work-related) may be an exception — life happens!
